Planning is one of those topics that you hear about in motivational videos when very successful people give you their key actions to achieving your goals and getting wherever you want in life. Or you can find some videos showing how to plan your week and your day in the most effective ways, so you can do whatever you want in life. Those are really good tips and I find myself sometimes watching stuff like that and feeling like my life is gonna change like that from tomorrow! So, the excitement comes and I plan the whole year ahead of me but, in fact, I have only 1 or 2 days of really following those strict plans I made after feeling like a superwoman after those videos. But one thing I feel people don’t normally talk about is in terms of planning your life is that planning has to come with a certain understanding and tracking of your emotional state as well. Without considering that we have emotions and needs, your timetable can even work well (when it does) but, at the end of the day, you won’t feel in tune with yourself and that’s crucial for being able to see your path clearer and, therefore, be successful.

Having 2,96 in my bank account made me realize how important it is to have a bit of a struggle at some moments of your life to be able to plan for the future. And not just a distant future but a very close one. When we live day by day and just see everything that we do as it is instead of understanding that all our actions have a huge impact on our future, we live in complete dependence on the circumstances around us, which means, we can’t be autonomous if we don’t have a certain type of freedom regarding our environment. To be autonomous, we need to be able to move around and do things that we would like to do without allowing external situations to limit and restrict whether we should do a certain thing or not. More often than we think, when we say that we are autonomous, we are not.

We have a tight and strong connection with our environment. We can’t just be completely disconnected from it because we are immersed in it so trying to separate our surroundings to try to understand what we do is pointless. So, this autonomy is not simply completely breaking free from what’s around us but, instead, being able to act, within our environment, the way that we want to.

And our emotions are a very important part of planning for the future because it changes the way we perceive things. We can’t just simply ignore that we’re gonna make every little thing on our timetable strict and flawless because that’s not who we are. We need to make time for that phone call with our friends, we need to make time to listen to some music and chill out, we need to make time to spend a bit more time doing something that we love if we want to have a very successful life. That’s why acknowledging that we aren’t perfect and that we’re gonna make a lot of mistakes before we make something “right” is the best way to really follow a brilliant schedule and be completely at peace with the path we want to follow in life.
